Can you get a Zipcar right away?
Most people are approved instantly and can book a trip within minutes, but if there’s a reason for delay, we‘ll email you. As soon as you‘re approved, you can book Zipcars by the hour or day and use our app to unlock and lock during your trip.
What if I bring my Zipcar back early?
Zipcar doesn’t give you money back for returning a car early. Car-sharing fees are charged at the time you make your reservation. However, it’s much better to be early rather than late, as Zipcar does charge late fees.
Can you pick up and drop off at different Zipcar locations?
Just reserve in our app, pick up in one location, drive where you need to go, and drop off at a different location in our Zipzone – it’s as easy as that.
Can you keep Zipcar overnight?

Is Zipcar cheaper than Uber?
Zipcar is often more affordable than its competition. With base fees, per-mile, and per-minute charges, Uber and Lyft are more expensive than Zipcar for trips of any length.
Can I unlock my Zipcar early?
If there’s no reservation immediately before yours, you can take the car up to 14 minutes early at no extra charge. The doors will only unlock early if the car is available.
Does Zipcar pay for gas?
We are happy to pay for gas, but we count on members to fuel the vehicles. Every Zipcar has a gas card in the visor above the driver’s seat that should be used when fueling the vehicle. Your Zipcar needs to be left with at least 1/4 tank of gas, no matter how much it had at the start of the reservation.
Can I use Zipcar without my zipcard?
If you joined Zipcar after May 1, 2020 in the United States, you do not need your Zipcard to get out and drive. Download the Zipcar iPhone® or Android™ app to book a trip, access vehicle location details, and unlock your Zipcar. Once you arrive at the car, use the app to unlock and lock your vehicle.
What happens if you go over 180 miles in Zipcar?
Regardless of how many hours you need the car for, ZipCar allows you to drive up to 180 miles at no additional charge. Should you need to drive a longer distance, you‘ll need to pay 45 cents per additional mile you put on the car. In some cases, premium vehicles cost 55 cents for each mile over 180 miles.
